I met a number of very talented artists at Penland last week and several of them have webpages with their work. I wanted to share those links and some of their images here.
Suzanne Gernandt was one of the two instructors for the class I took, Weaving off the Grid. Suzanne & her husband own and run Textures, a beautiful gallery in Waynesville, NC. Suzanne's work can be seen both in her gallery and online at her website. This image is an example of her work from her website. Suzanne works with bold color, double-weave structure as well as stitching and further manipulations off the loom to create much of her work.
Vicki Essig was the second instructor for Weaving off the Grid. Vicki's work is really delicate, exquisite work. She works with fine silk, found natural objects, fine wool, and other materials to produce really intimate, beautiful works. As a teacher, Vicki was exceptionally encouraging and nuturing of our ideas and our work. Vicki lives and works in Asheville, NC. I was unable to locate a website for her, but here are a couple of galleries that show her work: Blue Spiral 1, Textures, and Piedmontcraftsmen.
The class was also honored with a very talented jewery-maker/silversmith as our studio assistant - Una Barrett. Una's beautiful jewery can be found on her website - Relics of a New Age.
Trish Harris was another student in our class who weaves for a living. She has been weaving for over 20 years. Her work can be found on her website. Her work is also shown at the Gateway Gallery in Round Hill.
